Where are Loominarea rugs crafted?
Our premium quality, hand-knotted rugs are made in Nepal with Chinese Mulberry silk and Tibetan wool. Our hand-tufted rugs are made in India with New Zealand wool and Eucalyptus Tencel. We only use all-natural, ethically-sourced materials for both techniques, and never compromise on the quality, vibrancy, and aesthetic of our rugs.
What is the difference between hand-knotted and hand-tufted rugs & what materials are used?
Hand-knotted rugs are our premium offerings. The quality of hand-knotted rugs is so incredible, that they often last for generations. They often become heirlooms and collectable pieces. We searched the world, and handpicked the most precious materials to be used for rugs made with the hand-knotted technique: Chinese Mulberry silk and Tibetan wool. It’s important to note that, although many companies specify that they use silk in their materials, not all silk is equal. We only work with a fine Mulberry Silk imported from China – recognized as the best silk in the world. Hand-tufted rugs are also absolutely stunning; however, unlike hand-knotted rugs, they are made with a hand-held tool (instead of entirely tied by hand). Hand-tufted rugs have a backing, unlike their hand-knotted counterparts.
What, exactly, is the quality of your rugs?
Our hand-knotted rug collections are made with 100 knots, and our hand-tufted rug collections are 650 tufts.
How long does it take to make a Loominarea rug?
Each and every one of our rugs is made to order. It takes approximately 4-6 weeks to craft our hand-tufted rugs. Hand-knotted and custom rugs will take about 10-16 weeks depending on the complexity and intricacy required.

Is it possible for me to design my own rug?
Yes! We love creating custom rugs and even entire custom collections for our clients!
I see a loose yarn in my rug, what should I do?
Don’t worry. It’s common for a few stray strands of wool or silk to “sprout” up. If this does happen, don’t be concerned – your rug isn’t unravelling. Try not to pull on the thread any more. Just snip the rogue strand with a pair of small scissors.
What happens if I spill on or stain the rug?
It’s alright! If you do spill something, act quickly to keep the stain from setting. Blot wet spills with white paper towels or a clean white terry cloth towel. You are trying to lift the liquid up from the rug instead of rubbing the spill into the fibers. If there is still residue from the stain, try applying a bit of clear carbonated water and blotting once more. Try not to oversaturate the rug with carbonated water. If, after taking these steps, the stain is still there, take your rug to a professional cleaner.
How often should I have my rug cleaned?
We recommend professional cleaning for your rug at least once a year.
What is Loominarea’s return policy?
The vast majority of our rugs are made-to-order, which means that they’re non-refundable and non-returnable. Any customers who select an in-stock rug that is returned within 10 days of purchase will receive a full refund, as long as it has not been damaged or soiled. If any returned rug requires cleaning, steaming, or alterations, the cost of these necessities will be deducted from the purchase price prior to refund.
